"Expressing Your Truth: Staying True to Yourself in Your Artistic Expression"

Tiffany Wilson is a true musical artist and songwriter whose voice speaks to something real and soulful. Not content with writing only standard love songs, her latest album "#SeeSharp" also speaks of inner and outer change, politics, and vision of a brighter future.

As a solo artist, Tiffany released her first original project "Music Therapy" in 2009 and her sophomore album “#SEESHARP” in July 2016. With this project, Tiffany's plan is to use her voice, pen and outlook to shed some light and love on what's taking place in our shared world.

The production of her sophomore release is a conscious blend of the sounds of the past and the future. It is a mix of classic live soul & funk music filtered through her contemporary R&B roots and sensibilities. Eschewing the retro soul fad and moving towards a unique combination of past, present, and future-

Music Development: Is Your Music Memorable?

If you plan on joining us, Momma Nikki wants you to come with a song you are either done with or a song you are developing. She wants to help you make your song the best it can be and teach how valuable it is being flexible with change.

Momma Nikki is a Haitian-Queer artist that sings, spits, or a combination of the two. She's a vocalist & MC in her band, Holy Pistola. As well as helped create a monthly poetry slam & artist showcase to help make a safe space for POC & QTPOC, called RingSide. She has an EP out titled: Dead-icated To: Side A. And just released a new EP titled: Momma Nikki Exposed: the other side of Nikki. She is known for her harmonies and this new raw EP exposes her heart to all, especially those who have lost someone.

Momma Nikki is also currently the host of RingSide Slam Open Mic & Head-to-Head Poetry Slam at Red Lounge/Taste of Caribbean in Seattle.

All Access Fridays featuring Kisha Vaughan
Friday, Friday April 19, 2019 // 4-6pm // Youngstown Cultural Arts Center

Come join us for a special workshop featuring Kisha Vaughan! Kisha will be teaching us about stage presence and movement as you grace the stage with your dance moves.

Kisha Vaughan, born in Biloxi, Mississippi and raised in Sacramento, CA has been dancing in and around Seattle for the past 15 years with a focus on hip hop. Kisha has had the privilege to be a part of various crews including Breaking Point Dance Company, In Effect Hip Hop, and Seattle Storm Hip Hop Squad.

Kisha was a back up dancer for Macklemore and Ryan Lewiswhere she had the opportunity to tour the U.S. and Canada.

Performances include Showtime at the Apollo, Folklife, Capitol Hill Block Party, Conan O'Brien, MTV Movie Awards, Billboard Awards, Sasquatch, We Day, Rolling Stone Magazine, You Tube, and Bumbershoot.

Kisha has also been the creative director and choreographer for Emerald City Elite, Poison Poppies, and Garfield High School Puppettes.

Currently Kisha teaches hip hop and choreographs. Her work has been seen at various competitions and shows including Monsters of Hip Hop and World of Dance.

For our last All Access Fridays of 2018, Totem Star invites you to join us for a Music Business panel featuring our incredible guests:

Sharlese Metcalf (KEXP)

- Sharlese Metcalf began her radio career at Green River Community College in 2001 hosting their Northwest music focused show Local Motion on KGRG. She attained her Broadcasting Certificate from Green River, and was offered a job at Jones Radio Networks. There, she worked on Classic Country and Top 40 shows as a production assistant. While at Jones Radio, she was given a KEXP internship to work on the show Audioasis as an assistant to the host and booker. In 2009, She became an Audioasis producer, and in 2012, was promoted to host and an Events Producer at KEXP. Sharlese additionally works as yoga DJ, promotes events at clubs around town as False Prophet, is a member of the TUF collective and currently serves as a member on the Seattle Music Commission.

- Reese Tanimura has served as the Program Director for the Rain City Rock Camp for Girls for the past three years and as a volunteer Teaching Artist starting in 2011. With a small-but-mighty team and a steadily growing community, Rain City Rock Camp for Girls empowers girls, women, and gender non-conforming individuals to engage their creative potential through music, champion equity and thrive in a community of allies and activists. Reese is extremely passionate about equity in education and has over a decade of experience teaching music in public schools in Hawaii, and in Washington’s Federal Way Public School District. From 2010 to 2014, she managed education and work-training programs for YouthCare, serving Seattle and South King County youth neglected by traditional school systems and impacted by homelessness and the juvenile justice system.

- Amy LP is a multimedia artist, audio engineer, vocalist, and teaching artist who got started on her artistic journey through Arts Corps’ All Access program 10 years ago. She is currently Arts Corps’ Media & Communications Manager, with the honor of being able to take photos and produce videos capturing the unique stories of young artists and changemakers. She is constantly inspired by the young artists she gets to work with and has recently started writing some fresh songs after a long hiatus.

This is a great opportunity to learn about the local Seattle music industry from professionals with experience to speak from. The panel will be open to Q&A so start thinking of those burning questions you want to ask! We hope to see you there!

All Access Fridays featuring Ace Wilson

For the fourteenth installment of All Access Fridays, Ace Wilson will be leading a Vocal Technique Workshop to help you improve your singing and find your voice.

Ace Wilson is a queer and transgender artist of color who currently focuses on video media after realizing the true power that video media has on influencing the world. 

In high school, Ace was really into watching documentaries, especially the ones about space where that omnipresent white man voice is like "As we travel, billions of light years across the galaxy, we will discover what humans call a galactic star cluster." Ace used to thrive off those type of documentaries. Little did they know that their fascination with documentaries as a piece of art and an educational tool would lead them to become a videographer as a profession.

Ace is grateful to have had many opportunities to get hands-on skills and experience with video, with the most recent and profound opportunity, becoming a KEXP intern. They are also a musician, so naturally they've been sucked into the world of music videos. Ace realized that they wanted to create music videos artist after they noticed that they spend a lot more time watching music videos compared to the amount time watching films. They love music videos because of their flexibility. For example, music videos can be super clean and to the point or experimental and edgy, it's really about what the musician wants to convey. Ace also appreciates the fact that music videos can leave emotional impact on the viewer in such a short amount of time. 

Ace is excited to share their knowledge with you so that you can sculpt your music videos into what you want them to be.
