What’s Lily listening to?
By: Edgar Vega
What song do you currently have on repeat and why do you like it?
Carry the Zero by Built To Spill. The funny thing about this is I’ve known this song for my whole life and always loved it, but I go in chunks where I listen to it multiple times everyday and some where I don’t listen to it for months. It is probably my favorite song that I’ve ever heard. I love the lyrics, the way the guitar parts go together perfectly, and the different song structure. I think I’ll probably keep coming back to this song my whole life.
How would you describe your music preference in general? What qualities make a song truly great?
I listen to so many different kinds of music so this question is hard for me. I also go back and forth between the genres I listen to the most. However, lately I’ve been really into lo-fi pop. With 80s pop, what really draws me in is the synths, melodies, and also the hooks which I do find repetitive but somehow don’t get bored of them.
What qualities make a song truly great?
I think what makes a song really amazing is when all the sounds in the song from the every part of the production to the vocals blend together perfectly and complement each other. I think when you listen to a great song you should be able to find something new you didn’t notice last time every time you listen.
How does the music you listen to affect the music you make?
When I write a song I usually take inspiration from another song or artist I have.
